What Your Favorite Monkee Says About You...

MonkeePsych 101 (kindly written for me by Rob)

(or Know Thy Monkee - Know Thyself)

Fans of the late 1960's NBC television series The Monkees, are quite a diverse lot. They seem to come in all shapes, sizes, backgrounds, ethnicities and so forth. What binds these differing examples of humankind together in an abiding love of pop music, and the zany slapstick antics of those made-for-TV rock & rollers. As diverse as the fans of the show, so too were the Monkees themselves. Micky Dolenz, Davy Jones, Mike Nesmith and Peter Tork each had a distinctive style, personality and temperament that blended into a whole. Each fan of the show tends to have their favorite Monkee, perhaps seeing in their idol some of the same traits they themselves demonstrate, and each fan tends to gravitate towards other like-minded individuals. See if you can't find yourself or someone you know in these profiles. This ain't Freud - this is fun. Answers at the bottom.

A.

You tend to shy away from the spotlight and would prefer to stand back from the center of things to better observe your fellow man. Probably a little too intelligent for your own good, you revel in the esoteric and shun the mainstream. Your life is the way you want it, and to hell with anyone who disagrees. There is a twinge of the perfectionist in you, and you tend to obsess over the smallest of minutiae. You gravitate towards intelligence, and scream in silence over ignorance. You tend to come off as a bit of a smart-ass to some people because your sense of humor is very dark, and things that tend to make you laugh out leaves most people scratching their heads. If you tell a joke, most people won't get it. You also tend to internalize your emotions. Generally easy going, but also subject to downbeat moods.

If you met a bum on the street you would:

Wonder what decisions and/or bad karma led him to his current situation, and then lecture him on the subject.

B.

You have an unique, almost child-like fascination for all things in life. You tend to shy away from the spotlight, unless you have something pertinent to share. Your life is not quite completely rooted in reality. Flights of fancy are the order of the day. Everyday concerns, such as paying the bills, are almost repugnant. Sentimental at heart, you've been known to cry at the top of a hat. You are drawn to people with upbeat attitudes, and try to uplift those who are down. You tend to be a sounding board for others, and you are the one who most people trust to keep a secret. Possessed of a gentle, folksy humor. Generally easy going, but sometimes subject to quiet reflective moods.

If you met a bum on the street you would:

Take him back to your place, cook him a good meal, give him the jacket off your back, and slip him your last $20 in the side pocket when he wasn't looking.

C.

You crave the spotlight. You must be the center of attention, not because you have any real point to make, but because you need to be there. The consummate "control freak", life is no fun unless it's lived exactly on your terms because you absolutely, postively know you're right. Slightly self-centered and egotistical, you value your appearance over substance. You tend to be upbeat and jovial on the outside, downbeat and taciturn on the inside. You find comfort in complacency, and you are not readily acceptant of change. You don't mind sharing with others as long as there is an emotional and/or economic return of equal measure. After all, this is all about you. Not generally considered to possess a keen sense of humor. Prone to frequent "bad hair days".

If you met a bum on the street you would:

Think to yourself, "What's in this for me?"

D.

You are the original "party animal". You want to be at Ground Zero of any event. Life is no fun unless you're the center of attention at a party, a meeting at work or anywhere else where you can "perform". You tend to eat, drink and breathe excitement, and shun those who don't fall in line. You also dress and act younger than your actual age, and seek out those things that keep you perpetually young. Absolutely fearless in trying new things, you act on impulse, sometimes failing to consider the consequences of your actions. Your sense of humor is broad and irreverent, and you are at your best when tilting against the institutions and conventions of society. Bi-polar by nature, you are prone to high, high, highs followed by lows, lows, lows.

If you met a bum on the street you would:

Probably invite him to a party.
